Dog abandoned in the street on Christmas Eve makes a miraculous recovery
On Christmas Eve, a dog named Tiggy was rescued after being completely abandoned on the streets of Blythe, Northumberland, England. Tiggy was ruthlessly dumped on the streets in critical condition, to the point of being almost given up for dead.
Her condition was horrific; she was virtually skin and bones, with no fur, a visible rib cage and protruding ribs, a scenario that made the dog fear the worst.
According to the Daily Mail, she was located by animal rescue workers, who took it upon themselves to rescue her from the street and transport her to Berwick Animal Rescue Kennels (BARK), where she was treated and given the means to recover.
Although the staff in charge of her care assumed that Tiggy would not survive Christmas due to her poor condition, her condition suddenly improved.
It is worth noting how crucial BARK and its director, Jan Ross, were to Tiggy’s remarkable recovery, as he received special attention from the moment he arrived.
The dog had to reside in a home because she could not be with other dogs, and she was given proper nutrition to help her regain her weight, as she weighed about 24 pounds when she arrived at the shelter, which was well below average.
According to Jan:
“When I first saw the dog, I was filled with amazement, terror, panic, relief and an immediate love for his fighting spirit.”
Tiggy underwent numerous medical examinations, as it was assumed that she was ill due to her situation. To everyone’s surprise, the dog simply needed parasite treatment and proper nutrition.
At this time, it is unknown why they did this to Tiggy, and who abandoned her.
Tiggy’s terrible story has gone viral, drawing the attention of Northumberland County Council, who are working to uncover the perpetrators.
The group has put out a call to the public for any information regarding the plight of the abandoned dog, in order to find the culprits.
They explained:
“This is a stunning and outrageous example of neglect, and we are extremely interested in learning more about how he got so skinny and bringing the person(s) involved to account.”
In terms of recovery, the dog has made remarkable progress; he has gained weight and his physical appearance has improved markedly; his attitude toward other people and dogs has also changed, and his confidence has increased.
