A Dog held by a short chain, who could not even rest his head, is finally rescued.

I make sure you burn from the inside out when you see a dog that has been abused and neglected. Unfortunately, this was the case with a dog named Cala. She was a guard dog in a mechanic’s shop near San Jose, Costa Rica. The mechanic never took her to the vet when she became ill, and never fed her daily. She was malnourished to the point that she could not stand on her feet, and when she sat down, the short-chain around her neck prevented her from putting her head on the ground. Cala’s condition worsened and she even began to have difficulty breathing. If help didn’t arrive soon, Cala would die.

Fortunately, neighbors saved Cala from the brink of death. They contacted the local police and the Territorio de Zaguates dog shelter. The police got Cala off the property and took her to the vet. She was treated for injuries from the chain around her neck and severe malnutrition.

Even after being rescued, Cala’s struggle was not yet over. In June, people broke into the sanctuary to try to kill some of the dogs with poisoned sausages. While 16 of the dogs died, this tenacious pup survived. Her size probably helped her tolerate the dose, or she only took a small bite.

After that, Cala was placed in a foster home where she is currently showered with love and attention. Cala has also become quite mischievous, but her foster mom adores her. Lya Battle, founder of Territorio de Zaguates, has rescued countless dogs in her lifetime, and she will rescue many more, but she finds Cala’s story particularly uplifting. This rescue is an epic battle of good versus evil, of hate versus love, and in the end, as always, love wins.

Cala was tied to a chain so short that she couldn’t rest her head or even breathe properly for years.

Fortunately, neighbors saved Cala from the brink of death.

Neighbors reported the inhumane conditions to the police and the Territorio de Zaguates dog shelter.

She was treated for injuries resulting from the chain around her neck and for severe malnutrition.

The healing process was long and painful for the puppy.

In addition to the pain, she was very suspicious of other dogs and humans.

But the rescue team had no intention of abandoning her.

Here is Cala a few days after the treatment, she already looks better.

After that, Cala was placed in a foster home where she is currently receiving lots of love and attention.

Cala has also become quite mischievous, but her foster mother adores her.

“She’s happy, strong, strong-willed, a little stubborn, and spoiled by her foster mom and family,” Battle reports.
