It was meant to be a routine drive to work for plumber Carlos Carillo and his coworker when they noticed something unusual in a ditch off the country road.
“We didn’t realize he was a dog at first,” Carrillo, a Shoreline Plumbing employee in Texas, told The Dodo.

The plumbers loaded the puppy into their vehicle and drove him to Peewee’s Pet Adoption, a no-kill shelter nearby. “Look at that face,” Carrillo commented, referring to how glad the dog appeared to be alive. “He knows he’s been saved!”
The dog was found to be in fair condition despite having heartworms, for which they began treatment. “His tail won’t stop wagging,” a Peewee’s Pet Adoption spokeswoman told The Dodo. “He’s a real sweetie.”
