Rescued dog meets his “twin from another mother” on the street and convinces his mother to take him home

Bethany Coleman and her boyfriend were already living with two elderly cats and a young rescue dog named Rogue. So they were hesitant to get a new dog, even though they really wanted to. They were going to rent an apartment and thought that no one would allow two people, two cats and two dogs to rent their place. One day, Coleman was walking with Rogue through the local farmers’ market, and something caught their eye. It certainly wasn’t the fresh produce she was looking for, but a dog that looked like Rogue. Coleman knew it was fate that brought them together, so they adopted the 8-month-old puppy, and named him Beast. Even though Rogue was used to being the only dog in the family, he treated Beast as if he were his twin, separated at birth.

They also had to consider the fact that they were only renting an apartment. But it wasn’t until they laid eyes on Rogues, another mother’s twin, that they decided not to hesitate.

It was truly a beautiful day when they saw the dog, and they knew that it was fate that made their paths cross.

“Rogue and I fell in love with him at first sight,” Coleman told The Dodo. “He looked like Rogue, same size (at the time), same coat…they’re both cairn [terrier] mixes. We get asked all the time if they are brother and sister.”

They took the dog, named him Beast and welcomed him into the family.

When Beast became a member of the family, Rogue had to adjust. She was used to being the only dog in the family, and often had little arguments with Beast.

“At first, we gave Beast and Rogue the exact same toys, but she only wanted what Beast had and always took it from him,” Coleman told The Dodo.

Despite all their differences, they learned to complement each other and are now best friends.

“Beast is the big baby and my cuddly toy who competes with the cats for lap space,” Coleman adds.

“Rogue used to be super hyper when she was on her own, but she’s definitely mellowed out since she has a boyfriend.”

“I jokingly say we are starting our [own] little Noah’s Ark,” Coleman added. “Two humans, two cats and two dogs.”
