Shelter dog hugs his best friend hours before he is euthanized and saves their lives

Shelter dog hugs his best friend hours before he is euthanized and saves their lives.

It’s remarkable how a simple photo has the power to change lives, as it did for two shelter dogs. Kala and Keira found themselves together in a shelter and with nothing to do but hug each other, they quickly became supportive.

They were attached, body and soul. Unfortunately, they had been in a dead animal shelter and their time was running out. Then, with a quick camera shot, everything started to change and the two were given a second chance at life, writes bored panda.

They were at the Etowah County Humane Society and were scheduled to be euthanized the next day when the staff decided to take a picture and post a final plea for the puppies’ lives on their social media page.

The two puppies at the shelter caught the attention of Angels Among Us Pet Rescue, which was informed by the shelter that the two frightened friends had unfortunately reached their “deadline,” literally. It was their last day, and they were scheduled to be euthanized.

As time ran out, the rescue center re-shared the viral photo with a caption that told readers their heartbreaking story from Kala’s perspective, in an emotional effort to save the two shelter dogs from death row ;

As the post continues, the rescue center is desperate for help.

The heartbreaking post went viral within minutes and, according to Angels Among Us, it was only 2 hours and 6 minutes from the time their story was posted to the time they escaped certain death. A man who saw the photo on the rescue page immediately called the rescue and said he was on his way to get them.

Unfortunately, he could only take care of the relieved shelter dogs until a forever home could be found, so their ordeals became easier but were certainly not over.

Then, in October, three months after the photo of the two shelter dogs was posted on social media, they finally met their furry companions, and the match couldn’t have been more perfect.

Pam Cody and Wendy Newman are not only best friends, but they are also roommates, which was perfect because now Kala and Keira will have their mommy to love and can babysit each other too!

In an interview with People, Cody and Newman talk about the events leading up to their adoption. Earlier in the summer, they had seen the announcement that Kala and Kiera needed a permanent home, but they already had two dogs they were caring for themselves.

Then, in a tragic but beautiful twist of fate, both of their dogs died within a matter of days. So when they learned that Kala and Kiera still hadn’t met their forever families, they decided to change that for the dogs at the shelter.

What an incredible story! Share it with your friends and family!
